RadMedic Weather-Related Illnesses Workshop
07/18, 4-6pm, Black Flag Combat Club (1963 rue Ontario E)
RadMedic is a network of street and protest medics that host weekly first aid workshops and trainings relevant to the environments we medic in. This means that we are acutely aware that care is politicized ; withheld from those who are not deemed worthy by the state, and provided on the condition that one obeys and maintains the status quo. Our main goal is to share first aid knowledge (outside of expensive certification programs !) so that we can all feel confident in responding to injuries or emergencies around us. In our trainings, expect a learning component and a practice component (usually in the form of scenario simulations) that meet everyone where they’re at — from experienced medic to absolute beginner.
This workshop deals with temperature extremes, focusing on things that can happen when it’s too hot, too cold, or too wet including their symptoms, prevention, and treatment. Common cold related injuries include hypothermia and frostbite, while heat related injuries include heat cramps, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, sunburns, dehydration, and trench foot. As part of the workshop, we’ll practice various scenarios to identify the different levels of injury risks.
