Montreal has been an important hub for translation between English and French. This discussion will touch on the place of translation in the broader anarchist project, Montreal language politics, and why we shouldn’t all just be using Google Translate instead.

Textures of the land: Reconnecting with our roots

With Charly Cartier

An artistic exploration workshop and conversation. This event invites Queer members of the BIPOC community in a discussion around ancestry, land, pre/de colonialism, belonging, home etc. The discussion will be launched by a short film, opening the conversation. You will then be guided into a mirror collage workshop, creating a unique piece to take home with you.

Charly is a queer multidisciplinary immigrant artist living in Montreal. Their art focuses on belonging and being unapologetically themselves. Their homelands (Mauritius, Madagascar and Reunion) feeds their artistic practice in many ways. Charly ran multiple workshops in their professional and artistic life, where they pride themselves on prioritizing a safe space and accessibility for Queer BIPOC community members

Les idées de l’eugénisme ne datent pas d’hier. Déjà au temps de Darwin, la science évolutive était reprise au nom d’une idéologie suprémaciste de blancs aisés. Depuis, ces idées demeurent sous-jacentes à de nombreux projets politiques, parfois avec des résultats violents. D’où vient l’eugénisme? Comment influence-t-il les idées et courants politiques dans notre société aujourd’hui? Dans cette série de quatre cours, nous examinerons ce courant de pensée et chercherons des manières de le combattre.

Animées par Gabrielle Anctil et Philippe Poliquin, chaque séance nous éclairera sur ce concept grâce à un panel de chercheur·euses, expert·es et activistes

“Severed” Screening hosted by In Pain and Insane

On October 29th, in recognition of two years of Israel’s relentless genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, as well as National Disability Awareness Month in the so-called U.S. and Disability Employment Awareness Month in so-called Canada, In Pain and Insane invites you to a screening of the powerful, new, short documentary Severed. Severed follows Mohamad Saleh, a Palestinian teenager from Gaza who lost his leg at only 12 years old, and has survived five Israeli military assaults. In those attacks, he lost his home, close family members, and best friends. Mohamad’s story is both deeply personal and emblematic of the thousands of Palestinians disabled by Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.

This is an opportunity to center Palestinian voices, deepen understanding of the genocide, and build solidarity between Palestinians and the larger disability justice community.

Together, we can take action on disability justice and Palestine.

Buzz #0205 to be let through the automatic doors, then take the elevator up to the second floor. The door to our space can be opened by automated button, and swings out.

There is a paid parking lot beside the building, entrance on Guy.

The space contains one gender-neutral, single occupancy, wheelchair accessible washroom. The door is not automated, it swings in, and is pretty light.

Two air purifiers will be running in the space. This is a reduced scent space. We encourage people to not wear scented products at QPIRG or reduce drastically their usual use of these products (eg. perfumes, colognes, etc.).
