Join us with Ev Ricky for our first of two workshops this February, “Drawn Out: Chronic Illness and Flexagon Artist Books,” a workshop exclusively for people with chronic illnesses and disabilities, whether self diagnosed or with “official” diagnosis, in active disease or remission, intermittent or acute, etc.
Using the simple 4 page/ 4 panel flexagon/infinity artist book format, this workshop will be examining the temporal experience of chronic illness and physical disability. This circular artist book design is uniquely suited for chronically ill and disabled artists using nonlinear storytelling and image sequencing to explore themes related to illness such as: non-teleological approaches to “health” and “recovery”, spoon currency, the cyclicity of incurable disease and eternal recurrence of symptom management, the perpetual present of physical pain, and much more.
Registration for the workshop here! Registration is limited to 10 participants

Facilitator Bio:
Ev Ricky is a “Montreal”-based multidisciplinary visual artist, writer, agender TME dyke, white settler, zine-maker, and cultural worker, once described as “pert” and “young” by Vaginal Davis. Their artwork busies itself with graphic medicine and pathographics, speculative text-image relations, care, immunity, crip time, and access intimacies*. On the level of process, xe really enjoys materiality and material processes as a playground in their work, and xyr curiosity is often grounded by questions about slipperiness, stickiness, permeability, squishiness, scratching, palpating, breathing, bursting, stretching, squeezing, and bouncing. (*a term coined by Mia Mingus)
