On March 3rd at 6 PM, join us for a discussion and signing of the book "Born at the gates of Hell: A doctor’s frontline story of demivering babies in Al-Hol camp in Syria" by Dr. Maria Milland.

Milland, a Danish obstetrician and gynecologist who has been deployed 11 times for international organizations to various countries throughout Africa, the Middle- and Far-East, and the Caribbean, was dispatched to Syria where she worked at one of the Al-Hol camp’s hospitals for 9 months. "Born at the gates of Hell" is her account of this experience in a refugee camp populated largely by women and children, many of whom with ties to the Islamic State. It’s a story of resilience and hope in the face of hopelessness and a powerful reminder of our shared humanity.

Obstétricienne-gynécologue danoise, la Dre Milland a été déployée à onze reprises par des organisations internationales dans divers pays d’Afrique, du Moyen-Orient, d’Extrême-Orient et des Caraïbes. Elle a été envoyée en Syrie où elle a travaillé pendant neuf mois dans l’un des hôpitaux du camp d’Al-Hol. « Born at the gates of Hell » relate son expérience dans un camp de personnes réfugiées peuplé majoritairement de femmes et d’enfants, dont beaucoup ont des liens avec l’État islamique. C’est un récit de résilience et d’espoir face au désespoir, un puissant rappel de notre humanité commune.
