Toque Off is a grassroots volunteer effort to respond to Trump's threats to annex Canada and to use tariffs as economic warfare to force us to our knees. We're not for kneeling, or kissing rings. Now is our opportunity to make it clear we will never become part of the United States.
Our Goals
Toque Off's goal is to make it absolutely clear that Canadians will never be Americans. We will do this by holding demonstrations at American Consulates and other locations across the country and at the American Embassy in Ottawa.
We are starting with weekly demonstrations Saturdays 2-3pm. We hope to hold them more frequently when there are more locations involved.
Canada Needs You
It may sound cheesy, but Canada needs you. It needs all of us. This is the biggest threat to Canadian sovereignty since the War of 1812. Coming out to an hour once a week is a very small price to pay to protect the place we live and the values we love.

Solidarity With Others
Toque Off stands in solidarity with others who are being threatened or worse by Trump's actions. Unfortunately this list is likely to grow. It currently includes:
Ukrainians have been fighting for the survival of their country since it was invaded by Russia in February 2021. Trump is threatening to abandon Ukraine and appears to be working with Russia to extract as much land and other wealth from Ukraine as possible.
Trump has threatened ethnic cleansing of the Gaza Strip to turn it into a "Riviera of the Middle East," a clear crime against humanity.
Trump has imposed 25% tariffs on Mexico using the same fake fentanyl excuse used against Canada. As with Canada, the tariffs against Mexico constitute economic warfare and are designed to harm Mexico.
The Trans and non-binary communities in the US, here in Canada, and elsewhere. They have been on the receiving end of targetted hate by extremists who are threatening their right to live and be as they wish. Put simply, Trans rights are human rights.
In addition to the groups listed above, we would like to acknowledge the mass deportation of undocumented people, the worsening conditions for racialised Americans, the worsening conditions for women's rights and access to reproductive healthcare, and the rise and support of fascism in the US, Canada and elsewhere. In addition to Canada, the United States is threatening the territorial integrity of Panama and Greenland/Denmark. Mexico and other countries have been threatening with significant tarrifs.
History
Toque Off started with a poster campaign in Vancouver that turned into a growing number of people coming to the US Consulate every Saturday. Toque Off is loosely based on the protests in Tbilisi Georgia that started after Russian interference in their election brought a puppet government to power. Georgians have been protesting every night at 6pm for over 3 months. We hope to emulate their resolve.

« Où est Dieu ? », demande désespérément un vieil homme en contemplant les décombres du camp de réfugiés palestiniens de Jénine, en Cisjordanie. Les troupes israéliennes ont fait irruption dans le camp en mars 2002. Après plusieurs jours de combats acharnés, une grande partie du camp a été rasée et, outre plusieurs soldats, de nombreux civils ont été tués. Ce film montre à quel point l’oppression et la terreur prolongées ont affecté l’état d’esprit des habitants palestiniens de Jénine. L’amertume et le chagrin prévalent. Beaucoup ont perdu des êtres chers ou sont toujours à la recherche des leurs parmi les décombres. Une petite fille, qui ne semble pas avoir plus de douze ans, raconte son histoire sans manifester la moindre crainte. La violence quotidienne ne fait qu’alimenter ses sentiments de haine et son désir de vengeance. Elle explique ce qu’elle ferait au Premier ministre Sharon s’il venait visiter le camp et clame haut et fort que les Palestiniens n’abandonneront jamais la lutte. Ils continueront à mettre au monde des enfants qui poursuivront le combat contre l’injustice. Une triste question s’impose au spectateur. Quel est l’avenir d’un pays, d’un peuple, lorsque ses enfants sont confrontés à la guerre et à la violence dès leur plus jeune âge ?On Nov. 2nd, the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, more than 500 Palestinian films will be screened around the world as part of Palestine Cinema Days Around the World, initiated by FilmLab Palestine. This global effort is a show of solidarity with Palestine, an act aimed at amplifying censored Palestinian voices and correcting a narrative distorted by the media, world leaders and social media platforms.
‘Where is God’, an elderly man desperately wonders when surveying the debris in the Palestinian refugee camp Jenin. Israeli troops barged into the camp in March 2002. After a grim battle that lasted for days, a large part of the camp had been razed to the ground and, besides a number of soldiers, many civilians had been killed. This film shows the extent to which the prolonged oppression and terror has affected the state of mind of the Palestinian inhabitants of Jenin. Bitterness and grief are the prevailing feelings among the majority of the population. Many have lost loved ones or are still searching for victims and furniture among the debris. A little girl, who does not seem to be much older than twelve, tells her story but knows no fear. The ongoing violence in her day-to-day life only nourishes her feelings of hatred and the urge to take revenge. She tells what she would do to Prime Minister Sharon if he visited the camp and she shouts that the Palestinians will never give up the struggle. They will keep on producing children, who can continue the fight against injustice. The sad question forces itself on the spectator. What will become of a country, a people when its children are confronted with war and violence from a very early age?2
