Le 2 novembre, l'anniversaire de la déclaration Balfour, plus de 500 projections de films palestiniens seront présentées à travers le monde dans le cadre de Palestine Cinema Days Around the World, initié par FilmLab Palestine. Cet effort mondial est une manifestation de solidarité avec la Palestine, un acte visant à amplifier les voix palestiniennes censurées et à rectifier un récit déformé par les médias, les dirigeants mondiaux et les plateformes de réseaux sociaux.

Co-présentée avec Regards palestiniens, cette projection gratuite du film JENIN, JENIN sera suivie d’une discussion avec Nayrouz Abu Hatoum, professeure au département de sociologie et d’anthropologie de l’Université Concordia. Les premières personnes sur place seront les premières servies!

« Où est Dieu ? », demande désespérément un vieil homme en contemplant les décombres du camp de réfugiés palestiniens de Jénine, en Cisjordanie. Les troupes israéliennes ont fait irruption dans le camp en mars 2002. Après plusieurs jours de combats acharnés, une grande partie du camp a été rasée et, outre plusieurs soldats, de nombreux civils ont été tués. Ce film montre à quel point l’oppression et la terreur prolongées ont affecté l’état d’esprit des habitants palestiniens de Jénine. L’amertume et le chagrin prévalent. Beaucoup ont perdu des êtres chers ou sont toujours à la recherche des leurs parmi les décombres. Une petite fille, qui ne semble pas avoir plus de douze ans, raconte son histoire sans manifester la moindre crainte. La violence quotidienne ne fait qu’alimenter ses sentiments de haine et son désir de vengeance. Elle explique ce qu’elle ferait au Premier ministre Sharon s’il venait visiter le camp et clame haut et fort que les Palestiniens n’abandonneront jamais la lutte. Ils continueront à mettre au monde des enfants qui poursuivront le combat contre l’injustice. Une triste question s’impose au spectateur. Quel est l’avenir d’un pays, d’un peuple, lorsque ses enfants sont confrontés à la guerre et à la violence dès leur plus jeune âge ?

On Nov. 2nd, the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, more than 500 Palestinian films will be screened around the world as part of Palestine Cinema Days Around the World, initiated by FilmLab Palestine. This global effort is a show of solidarity with Palestine, an act aimed at amplifying censored Palestinian voices and correcting a narrative distorted by the media, world leaders and social media platforms.

Co-presented with Regards palestiniens, this free screening of the film JENIN, JENIN will be followed by a discussion with Nayrouz Abu Hatoum, professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Concordia University. First come, first served!

‘Where is God’, an elderly man desperately wonders when surveying the debris in the Palestinian refugee camp Jenin. Israeli troops barged into the camp in March 2002. After a grim battle that lasted for days, a large part of the camp had been razed to the ground and, besides a number of soldiers, many civilians had been killed. This film shows the extent to which the prolonged oppression and terror has affected the state of mind of the Palestinian inhabitants of Jenin. Bitterness and grief are the prevailing feelings among the majority of the population. Many have lost loved ones or are still searching for victims and furniture among the debris. A little girl, who does not seem to be much older than twelve, tells her story but knows no fear. The ongoing violence in her day-to-day life only nourishes her feelings of hatred and the urge to take revenge. She tells what she would do to Prime Minister Sharon if he visited the camp and she shouts that the Palestinians will never give up the struggle. They will keep on producing children, who can continue the fight against injustice. The sad question forces itself on the spectator. What will become of a country, a people when its children are confronted with war and violence from a very early age?
